Everybody has some stress in their life, but some people get more stressed than others, and sometimes the little things you stress over, build up and then this can cause the start of more severe stress which leads to depression.
There are a few things to remember, which can help stop stress building to something more serious.
In life, there is always a solution to every problem. The first step is to identify the cause. The feeling of loss of control is one of the main causes of stress.
Connect with people:
A problem shared is a problem halved. Make sure you have a good support network of family, friends and colleagues. These can help ease your troubles and help you see things in a different way.
Look for the positives in your life. Be aware of the things you are grateful for.
Try to be a “glass half full” rather than a “glass half empty”.
This requires a shift in perspective for those who are naturally pesimistic.
Accept the things you cant change:
Changing a difficult situation is not always possible, but try to accept things as they are and concentrate on everything that you DO have control over.
Exercise can help to relieve stress. Any form of physical activity can help get you into the right state of mind.
Avoid unhealthy habits:
Don`t rely on caffeine, smoking, alcohol or over eating as your way of coping. You may feel that they provide temporary releif, but over the long term, these “crutches” won`t solve your problems, but will eventually create new ones.
Have some “me” time:
Learn to relax.
Spend 10 minutes a day in a quiet, darkened room and concentrate on your breathing. Close your eyes, breath in as you count to 10, then as you exhale, blow all your troubles away. For more methods to beat stress, book your first session by calling me on 01268 756458.
